I am Jela Prančić, a Toronto-based mixed media artist and a graduate of York University’s Fine Arts program. Since the 1990s, I have exhibited paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos, and mixed media works in both solo and group shows. My art explores the intersections of history, mysticism, and science, inviting viewers to reflect on the unseen forces that shape human experience.
In my recent body of work, I turn to collage as an intuitive process of reconstruction and renewal. Drawing from an extensive archive of printed imagery collected over two decades, I create bold visual remixes that explore self-empowerment and the shared challenges of femininity. Contrast and harmony lie at the core of my process: collage becomes a space where old and new, abstract and representational coexist, revealing the tension and interplay that define contemporary life.
Through symbolic layering and expressive composition, I transform disparate imagery into complex stories about strength. This process is an act of reclamation, an assertion that meaning and beauty can always be rebuilt from what has been broken or overlooked. To me, collage art is an act of finding strength within complexity.
